David Stanley
Professor David STANLEY, BPhil PhD FHEA AcSS FRSA is the foundation holder of Northumbria University’s research Chair in Social Care in the School of Health, Community & Education Studies. A social scientist, David worked for ten years in residential education and care services for statutory and independent sector organisations.
David is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, an elected Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, with research interests in social gerontology. He is engaged in a range of activities including: a founding Editor of the Journal of Social Work, an international peer reviewed scholarly journal published by Sage; non executive director of Skills for Care, the adult social care Sector Skills Council for England, and Chair of the National Social Care Research Ethics Committee, part of the Department of Health’s National Research Ethics Service.
David has extensive experience of chairing committees and events at regional, national and international levels. He has chaired international conference panels, institutional subject reviews, national conferences, professional validation panels and acted as independent chair of complaints reviews panels for a number of councils with social services responsibilities. He was chair of the Joint Universities Council for Public Administration, Social Policy and Social Work Education from 2002-05.
